Ahab

The night before last was very cold and yesterday morning I went down to the chicken house to find our rooster, Ahab, dead.  He had got very wet during the bad storm we had last week and we think he caught a chill.  He had been very slow and hunched up for a few days but had begun shown definite signs of improvement.  Just the day before he had been running around and jostling for food with the chickens again.

I found him in one of the nesting boxes, curled up like he was trying to keep warm.  On a particularly macabre note there was a broody chicken in there with him when I lifted the lid.  All she was worried about was that one of her plastic eggs had fallen out and was on the floor.  Brendhan buried him in a corner of the veggie garden.

Oh Dear! What a sad event, and you can’t even eat him! I do hope you find another one soon to keep the hens in line.
