3 weeks old

Wow, only 3 weeks on and already they seem like small sheep rather than tiny lambs.  Paris-ite (as Brendhan has named our orphan after the infamous celebrity) is living down in the paddock with the others.  To start with we kept the lambs, Mum and her best friend Scarf seperate from the others to prevent the lambs being mauled too much by the grown-ups.  In the last few days though we have re-merged the whole flock and they all seem to be getting on fine now.  Anyway, on to the pictures as promised…

gossiping lambs

All the important paddock gossip takes place at the water bucket.

Cajun

Cajun – a bit damp from overnight drizzle.

Parasite

Paris-ite – having spent the night in the shelter she’s still dry and fluffy.

We moved the fleece Paris-ite was lying on in the photo on our last update down to the paddock with her and put it in the shelter.  This was very successful – she spent a lot of time in there and avoided getting overly wet and cold.  We’ve now moved it outside (as it was getting a bit manky) but she still spend some of each day sleeping on it.  She also discovered a third surrogate parent (Brendhan/Sarah being the first).  We think that the post that the electric fence solar panel sits on and a nearby fence post look a lot like human legs in black trousers to a lamb.

Both lambs are eating a lot of grass already so there has been a noticable reduction in lamb antics over the last couple of days.  Milk provides masses of energy so they have tended to alternate between mad running and jumping and sleep. We are in the process of moving Parasite to 2 feeds per day (started with 6, then 4) and will gradually tail this off over the next few weeks.
